FUN FUN FUN

The Swingers invite soprano opera singer Lori, to let her hair down and remove her shoes and join the Swingers in the studio to record a very unusual rendition of the Beach Boys 60’s classic.

GET ON DOWN NOW - LIVE

A terrible recording but amazing live performance featuring the great John Bliss - on vocals and drums - a classic

ME CHERONA

Another spontaneous Swinger adventure in the studio, interpreting "The Knack” classic “My Sherona” in Spanish and titling it “Me Cherona.”

GO JOHN KERRY

Jocko and Eddie were troubled by the “Swift Boat” gang beating up on Presidential Candidate and war veteran John Kerry. They quickly threw some tracks together, wrote some lyrics, recorded the vocals, mixed the song and pressed up a few CD’s to send around.

3 PT DAD

A truly bizarre audio adventure - the Swingers impersonate a college basketball coach coaching his slightly goofy 3 pt specialist who is white and thin in stature. Pretty funny if you understand basketball…. Sonny Jim performs the vocals - this one is “out there.”

BUD SPANISH AND ENGLISH

Different versions in Spanish and English of this frequently performed Swinger satire of the Bud Song. Vocalist Sonny Jim and Eddie had enjoyed a couple ‘after work’ cocktails prior to rolling tape during the vocal sessions. Both Sonny Jim and Eddie are native Angelinos, have numerous Latino friends and made a valiant effort to sing in Spanish. The English version speaks for itself - “Outthere.”

USC FIGHT SONG

They Swingers invite their buddies “Tans from the Sun” to the studio to create a Coliseum cheering section. Beverages were available and the eight participants recorded 10 different tracts of the same cheer to create USC cheering section.

AS TIME GOES BY

Jocko provides a live show stopping performance at the Sweetwater of the old classic “As time Goes By.” Mike Muffins had originally recorded a version of the song that inspired Jocko to perform a strip tease during his vocals. The crowd went nuts.

Fun Fun Fun

Some listeners of this truly bizarre version of the Wilson Love classic have described the Swingers’ version as irritating, while others roll in laughter. Give it a whirl, but if it get’s too outthere for you get ready to lift the needle. Lori and Dr. Feelie are hilarious.

Get on Down Now - Live

“Get on Down Now” is a poorly recorded gem of a song recorded live at the Sweetwater on a Saturday nite back in early 1982. The crowd was inebriated and raucous, the type of audiences the Swingers loved. The vocalist, John Bliss, was a powerful heavy metal, punk drummer with an amazing sense of humor. “Get on Down Now” showcased John’s amazing talents as a performer. Eddie said it was hard to keep up with him as well as keep it together during the performance. Eddie and bassist Willie would stick their heads in John’s tom toms during his wild performance. The crowd went nuts. Wish we had a better recording.

Me Cherona

“Me Cherona,” a satirical version of “My Sherona” became an early crowd favorite and made Dr. Demento’s Top 10 twice.. Jocko’s live performances of various Tijuana Brass melodies in the middle section always drew laughs. The Knack drummer (great drummer) Bruce Gary surprised the Swingers while they performed “Cherona” during their first set at the Roxy. Knowing there were no live drums, Eddie looked back in amazement and confusion. The Swingers never saw Bruce again, but always enjoyed that moment in front of 500 people.

Go John Kerry Go

A campaign fight song in support of Senator and Presidentail Candidate John Kerry. Jocko and Eddie raced to crank out the tracks, press a few CD’s and send them around. A U.S. Congressman said he would play the CD for some folks at the Democratic Convention. Though Senator Kerry was unsuccessful in his bid to replace President George W. Bush, the Swingers regrouped and recorded a more significant fight song for Senator Barack Obama in 2008 and Vice President Joe Bison in 2020. This one is a little ”out there.”

3 PT Dad !!!!!

One of the more interesting Swinger tracks that very few have heard. The fidelity (the mix, the sound) is pretty bad. If someone actually makes it thru the first listen and not overwhelmed by the chaos of music, sound affects, multiple voices and changing dynamics, you may appreciate the humor. The song’s story line describes a white basketball player that comes from New York to a small college in LA to play basketball. “Bobby” (aka “3 Point Dad”) is not a tall strong young man, but has mastered 3 point shots (“frozen ropes”) and is called by coach “William Weber Smith” to rescue the team in overtime so they can win the game. Swinger “Sonny Jim” provides the vocals and plays the coach during the timeout huddle. If you can get thru the chaos and identify with the characters, this “Outthere” Swinger gem is a laugh and a half. It definelty deserves a clean up and another better mix. See if you can bear it…..

Bud in Spanish and English

The Swingers have recorded a number of versions of this satirical Swinger classic. Being fans of the beverage and motivated to expand our comedy routines while performing live with the great Frazier Smith, the Swingers created this satire of “Bud” and performed it for the first time in the early 80’s at the Roxy in Hollywood. Based on the overwhelming response, the Swingers incorporated “Bud” from then on in every show. “New Wave Theatre” recorded a video version of a live performance of “Bud” and broadcast it on network TV. These versions are in Spanish and English. After having met “Sonny Jim,” a wonderfully unique personality and talent, the Swingers invited Jim to the studio and recorded two versions of this Swingers favorite in English and Spanish. Both Sonny Jim and Eddie are native Angelenos, have many Spanish speaking friends and speak decent Spanish. Sonny Jim is something else - This one is for you and definwlty “Outthere !!!!!!” !

USC Fight Song

Four of the Swingers as teenagers had sported marching band uniforms and marched in their high school bands (Nortre Dame High, Harvard High School , Daniel Murphy High and Birmingham High). One Swinger gave up caring a rifle and wearing a super heavy military uniform and volunteered to play a tom tom drum during military parades. Going into the studio and recording “Conquest” and the “USC Fight Song” was great fun though due to limited time because of budget restrictions, efficiency during recording was essential. “Tans from the Sun” helped us consume beverages and generate a USC cheering section. It was definelty “Outthere.”

AS TIME GOES BY

Recording artist and Swinger friend Mike Muffins had originally recorded “As time Goes By. ” Jocko, inspired by Mike’s version arranged the track with Eddie, vaudvielle style, and while singing performed a strip tease in front of the howling audience. Jocko’s mom was an opera teach and Jocko had some major pipes - a great performance.
